The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage (UNESCO) has designated French Equitation as a Cultural Heritage tradition in need of preservation. It is one of 14 traditions so far added to an Intangible Heritage Representative List at their latest meeting. This is a significant recognition of a tradition of human-horse relations which emphasizes 'harmonious relations' between the rider and the animal. Equally significant is that the Cadre Noir, at the National School of Equitation, is located in Saumur, France, where some EqRN members are beginning to build cooperative links.
